Lupe Fiasco: ‘I don’t want to be Jay-Z’
Lupe Fiasco has revealed that he does not aspire to reach the same level of success as Jay-Z.
The Grammy-winning rapper spoke about his loyal following and his image in rap music in a recent interview with The Age.
The 27-year-old said: “There’s a misunderstanding with my fan base. People [at Warner] feel they know my fans more than I do.
“They want me to step out of my comfort zone and step into theirs. I don’t have necessarily the celebrity success they want me to have but it’s more social success and being able to speak at a college about world affairs.
“That’s a success, to me. I don’t want to be Jay-Z and be worth $400 million and perform on every awards show. It’s getting in touch with somebody who needs to improve their self-esteem. As opposed to driving a Bentley and putting some chains on.”

Lupe is a good nigga. Most rappers would do almost anything, and I mean that literally, to be in Jay-Z’s position. There’s alot more going on than this bogus and phony music industry bull shit. I’d rather have a happy life, a good job, an education, a loving family, and overall well being than have to put on a facade to please industry execs just to get some money..when in reality the execs take damn near most of the money. Jay-Z’s a talented dude, but he’s also a punk ass sell out and he couldn’t care less about the nigga who bought his latest cd..just as long as he or she bought it…the nigga don’t care about going to a college or high school to talk to young people.
