A New York restaurateur has received a warning from city health officials after he offered customers cheese made from his wife’s breast milk.

Daniel Angerer says he came up with the idea after his home freezer ran out of space for the large amount of breast milk his wife had produced for their daughter.

The posted the recipe on his blog adding that “whoever wants to try it is welcome to try it as long as supply lasts.”

The recipe reportedly includes four cups of milk, yogurt, rennet and sea salt and is described by Angerer as tasting like a sweet version of cow’s milk cheese.

Angerer says response by those who have tried it has been positive but many are afraid to taste the cheese.

Angerer insists the cheese is not officially on his restaurant’s menu which features items that are locally sourced, sustainable and natural.

He admits the breast milk cheese is a “whole other level of natural.”
