Man Hands Out Business Cards Before Robbery
A man went from cheerful customer to alleged robber in a matter of minutes Thursday evening.
Scot Davis, 52, of West Des Moines spent an evening carousing at south Des Moines bar All In the Family, 4413 Fleur Drive. He left with a woman on his arm and a half-finished glass of beer on the bar, witnesses told police.
Before bartenders could clear his glass, Davis walked back in carrying a .22-caliber rifle and demanding all the money in the cash register, police said.
“Scot, what the (expletive)?” bartender Gladys York said to Davis. “Quit playing around.”
Davis fired off one round from the rifle and leveled the gun on Deb Barrier, another bartender, a police report said.
Barrier emptied the cash register and handed the money to Davis, who police said chased the two bartenders before bolting out the back door into a waiting car — allegedly driven by the woman he left the bar with only moments earlier.
York hopped into her own car and followed Davis. She found Davis’ car in a nearby apartment complex with the rifle in the back seat. She took the rifle and the vehicle’s registration from the car’s glove box, both of which she handed over to police when she returned to the bar.
Other witnesses turned over business cards with Davis’ name that he handed out to patrons earlier in the evening to promote his contracting business.
“This is not the hardest case our detectives have ever had to investigate,” said Sgt. Lori Lavorato.
Authorities issued a warrant for Davis’ arrest Friday evening. He is listed as 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds.
