Woman Catches Boyfriend And Sister Sleeping Together, Stabs Sister In Face

DULUTH, Minn. — A Duluth woman is accused of stabbing her sister in the face with a piece of wood that later had to be removed at the hospital.
Police say 26-year-old Stephanie Lynn Mattinas told investigators a fight started when she discovered her sister was having an affair with her boyfriend. Mattinas is accused of using an 8-inch wood molding fragment to attack her sister at a Duluth apartment Tuesday. Authorities say Mattinas used a baseball bat on her boyfriend.
An officer responding to the scene found broken bottles and glass all over the living room floor where part of the fight took place. A bedroom door appeared to have been kicked off its hinges. The 24-year-old sister of the defendant was found on the floor with her face covered in blood. She had a large stab wound on her left cheek with what appeared to be a piece of trim board, about 8 inches long, sticking out of her face.
A preliminary blood alcohol test revealed that Mattinas was more than three times over the legal limit to drive.
She was charged Thursday in St. Louis County District Court with first- and second-degree assault. Mattinas’ sister told police she was punched about 15 times and stabbed with the wood.
The Duluth News Tribune says Mattinas’ sister was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center where the piece of wood was extracted.
