When prowling the internet I come across various topics of debates and conversations. A main staple still seems to be is the term “Wifey” and what exactly seperates her from the rest.

Amongst women its a sensitive subject and is usually used to one up each other when competing for a man, or a way to define position in his life. But no matter how much its dissected by us ladies the only true definitions can come from men. So I’ve compiled a few key points from them for each term and you decide which one you fall under. You might be surprised.

A WIFEY…• Never has to compete with other women because she is the only woman her man is seeing, “talking to”, and interested in. She knows this from his actions. Not just his words.

• She knows her mans family and friends. Usually has her mans parents or guardians blessings. Along with his friends. If her lifelong partner’s friends and family don’t approve of her chances are she isn’t going to be his wife.

• A man treats his wife with the utmost respect. Never cheats on her (well tries not to), lies to her (only when he has to), or treat her like a jumpoff, a “main” or his “shorty”.

• She usually sees a side of him that no one else sees. She knows her man inside and out. His darkest thoughts, secrets, etc. There are no mysteries. No cloudy areas. Everything is in the open.

• She is the woman who a man chooses to spend the rest of his life with. She gets the marriage proposal, the ring, family unit, security and everything that man has to offer her for a lifetime.

A “SHORTY”…Is the woman who a man spends all of his time with. Usually been with for a long time. Maybe even has kids and lives with. But isn’t married or engaged. Ever thought why? Keep reading…

• Men know whether he is going to marry a woman in the early stages of the relationship. It takes men no time to see if a woman is going to be around for a while… or a lifetime.

• The “Shorty” also has met SOME of his family, and SOME of his friends. Sometimes the “shorty” may receive the mans family and friends blessings, but its usually over ruled by him…in the end.

• “Shorty” is equivalent to the “Main”. Meaning the one who he likes or cares about the most out of the women he deals with. The “shorty” is rarely the only one. Just in HER mind she is. But she don’t know the TRUTH. Men are NEVER 100% faithful to a “shorty”. Here’s why…

• The “shorty” is the woman who he may spend years with. In his heart he knows he wont marry her though. He’ll keep her around until the woman who he feels in his heart he WILL marry comes into his vision, then its curtains for the “shorty”. A man is going to be faithful or dedicated to the “shorty” for only so long before he starts roaming. He will eventually break up with the “shorty” and go be with the woman who he will make his WIFE.

So ladies realize your his TEMPORARY wife until the PERMANENT wife comes along or he wises up and you get that RING.

HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT?

Written by: Lana Ave.

The informal use of the word “grind,” which is to work or study laboriously, has historically been adopted by the Hip-Hop culture. We’ve taken on the pride that’s associated with working hard to get what we want and own it. However, when I look around at the new generation of aspiring rappers and singers I wonder if the intensity of the grind has been lost or diminished.

I can’t tell you how many people have asked me to help them with song writing and artist development only for them to consistently drop the ball. At first I thought maybe they felt I wasn’t offering the productive help they thought they needed. But when they kept returning with a short-lived “refreshed commitment,” I realized it wasn’t me. It was them. The grind got to be too much work for them. They didn’t want to rehearse the same songs over and over again until they could perform them effortlessly. The studio hours were too late at night, too long, or cut into their weekend fun. What killed me were the ones who wanted me to write songs, locate tracks for them and decide how they should perform. I’ve had people ask me to script their ad lib. Really? The term ad lib means something improvised in speech; at one’s pleasure. Where’s the willingness to be creative? How can you show the world what you got when you’re only giving them all I’ve got?

This is the GRIND people. Get on it! It’s what it is to be Hip-Hop; to use your talent and dedication to overcome despite those who aim to oppress you. You don’t do that by slouching. Look at Russell Simmons, P. Diddy, Rev Run, LL Cool J, Will Smith, Ludacris, Queen Latifah, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. These are the people I chose as examples because they’re not new to this. Where they are today took years and years of dedication, some of which we as an audience have been privy to. They’ve all worked hard and continue to grind because they decided to attain their goals, not just talk about them. Earned success requires you to put in long hours, learn your craft and master it. To make it and make a profit in any business you have to study the game and play with strategy. But you can’t play if you don’t show up. Buckle down and get focused. Hip-Hop has never been a business for the lazy. We claim what’s ours. Now go get it!
