Harry Potter has cast his biggest spell yet with a record-breaking first day at the box office for his final film.

Distributor Warner Bros. reports that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ summoned up $92.1 million domestically on opening day Friday.

That’s nearly $20 million more than the previous record-holder, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which took in $72.7 million in its first day two years ago.

The film added $75 million in 57 overseas countries Friday, raising its international total to $157.5 million since it began rolling out Wednesday. That gives the film a worldwide total of about $250 million.

New York, NY – March 28th, 2011 – “Down This Road” directed by Vinz Feller to premier April 23rd , 7:00pm at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.

“Down This Road” is a melodrama about two lost souls: A pre-teenager (Brandon Ratcliff) seeks out his estranged dad (Paul Calderon) after fleeing his mother’s workplace with a wad of stolen bills. His dad becomes aware that reconnecting with his son and sharing their pain, is better than facing life alone, ultimately.

The short premiered earlier this year at the Solothurner Filmtage and won an award for Best Fiction at the 30th Black Maria Film Festival. This short was inspired by a feature film currently in development and due for release in 2012.

Feller says of the short, “It’s about a tragic loss that one family experiences. It examines the results of grief and the pursuit of happiness. I believe in second chances, I believe in redemption, and I believe that we can learn to be better human beings even in the most difficult situations of our lives.”

LOS ANGELES– The Easter bunny has hopped into the top spot at the weekend box office.

Russell Brand’s family comedy “Hop” debuted at No. 1 with $38.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

With Brand providing the voice of the reluctant new Easter bunny, “Hop” bound well beyond the expectations of industry analysts, who had figured the movie would debut in the $25 million range.

Released by Universal, “Hop” matched the year’s best debut, for “Rango,” which opened a month ago with $38.1 million.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1,” earned $61.15 million domestically on its first day, putting the new film in the series on track to pass the previous Potter films, according to Hollywood.com.

That’s my word, I’ve never saw a Harry Potter movie in my life. I always thought it was some kiddie, nerdy type shit. Am I wrong? Am I missing anything by not watching it? Let me know!

Early reports clocked Takers a close second to The Last Exocist at the box office last weekend. T.I. sat down with Clay Cane for BET to explain why the numbers were off.

Clay: I’m seeing on various web sites that Takers was number one, and then Exorcism was number one. Why is there this indecisiveness on which film topped the box office?

T.I: You know, in film, it’s much different than music; they count dollar for dollar, hour for hour. In doing that there are estimations that are given — they reported this morning from numbers that came in last night. With those numbers they estimated the end-all-be-all would be the competition being number one and Takers being number two. But this morning, after those estimations have already been reported, the final numbers came in from Sunday night. When all those numbers came in, Takers was indeed number one — officially. They made estimations and kind of prematurely got that word out and miscalculated. The final call is Takers is number one. The people demanded it, as they should — and they got what they wanted.

Clay: I know it’s fairly early but do you see anywhere in the future a Takers sequel?

T.I.: I’m a step ahead of you — I just got off the phone with the director, writer, the head of Screen Gems and the label heads over at Sony. We are working not on a sequel, but a prequel to tell the back story of the characters.
