Volusia County School officials stand by a Deltona High School nurse’s decision to refuse a student his inhaler during an asthma attack, citing a lack of a parent’s signature on a medical release form.

“It’s like something out of a horror film. The person just sits there and watches you die,” said Michael Rudi, 17. “She sat there, looked at me and she did nothing.”

He said the school dean found his inhaler during a search of his locker last Friday. The inhaler was still in its original packaging — complete with his name and directions for its use; however, the school took it away because his mother hadn’t signed the proper form for him to have it.

School leaders called Sue Rudi when her son started having trouble breathing. She rushed to the office and was taken back to the nurse’s office by school administrators and they discovered the teen on the floor.

“As soon as we opened up the door, we saw my son collapsing against the wall on the floor of the nurse’s office while she was standing in the window of the locked door looking down at my son, who was in full-blown asthma attack,” Rudi said.

Michael Rudi said when he started to pass out from his attack, the nurse locked the door.

“I believe that when I closed my eyes I wasn’t going to wake up,” he said.
The Director of Student Health Services, Cheryl Selesky, said that parents must sign the medical release form each year, which allows students to carry their prescribed drugs with them in school.

This year, the district had no record of his Rudi’s signature, said Selesky.

“I mean its common sense if I saw an animal on the street in distress I would probably stop to help, why wouldn’t she help a child,” Sue Rudi said.
But Rudi is a senior, and his mother said the district has had records of his asthma throughout his years in the school.

She thinks her son could have died because of a technicality.

“How dare you deny my son something that we all take for granted, breath,” said Sue Rudi. “Why didn’t someone call 911?”

Selesky said the district is looking into whether proper procedures were followed by the school, and while nurses can’t give medications without the proper authorization, it is district policy to call 911 when a student cannot breath.

Selesky could not explain why 911 was never called.

“I understand if you can’t give it to him call 911,” Sue Rudi said. “Why did you not call 911?”

Sue Rudi said she worries about the next student caught in a similar situation, and has filed charges against the nurse with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

“I want to press child endangerment charges for something they did to my son,” Rudi said in the 911 call.

Local 6 reached out to the school district officials for more information, but they declined to interview.

Propofol, the drug that ended Michael Jackson‘s life and was administered by current jailbird Dr. Conrad Murray, is now being used in the state of Missouri as the drug of choice for those who are on death row, according to TMZ.

In Missouri, those on death row used to be put to death with a three-drug combination, but now, authorities have decided to use a large dose of propofol as the means to the end.

Propofol slows one’s brain and nervous system activity. Originally, it was used in hospitals as a general anesthesia during medical procedures.

Last November, Dr. Murray was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter for killing pop icon Jackson, after administering a cocktail of the aforementioned propofol and mild sedatives. Among other things, it was ruled that Dr. Murray was amiss in giving Jackson the powerful drug in an unmonitored environment. It was also determined that he should have known not to mix the already lethal anesthetic with any other drugs.

Dr. Murray lost his medical license and is currently serving a four-year sentence at L.A. County Jail, with other fallen stars singer James DeBarge and ex-Met baseball player Lenny Dykstra. As for Missouri and its new drug of choice, 19 inmates are reportedly on deck to receive it

NEW YORK — New York radio pioneer Harold Jackson, the first African-American voice on network radio, has died. He was in his late 90s.

Jackson began his career in Washington, D.C. as the first African-American play-by-play sports announcer. He moved to New York in the 1950s where he hosted three different radio shows, broadcasting a mix of music and conversation with jazz and celebrities.

Jackson later co-founded the Inner City Broadcasting Corporation, one of the first broadcasting companies wholly owned by African-Americans. The company acquired WBLS, which pioneered the urban contemporary format. Jackson continued to host a program each week on WBLS.

In 1995, Jackson became the first African-American to be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.

A statement on the WBLS website said Jackson died Wednesday of an undisclosed illness.

Wyclef Jean’s relationship with James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond was introduced as evidence in Rosemond’s federal cocaine trial yesterday (May 22).

Rosemond is accused of organizing and leading a $10 million-a-year cocaine operation, that imported hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into New York, while sending millions to the west coast.

Rosemond was a well-known urban executive, who managed artists like Game, Gucci Mane, Sean Kingston, Mario Winans, Brandy, Mike Tyson and others.

Over the years, Rosemond has enjoyed a cozy relationship with fellow Haitian, Wyclef Jean.

Jimmy Henchman, Haitian President Michel Martelly, Wyclef, Pras
In March of 2011, both Wyclef Jean and Rosemond helped organize a concert for future Haitian President Michel “Sweet Micky” Martelly. Rosemond also supported Wyclef’s run for President of Haiti in 2010.

But during the trial, prosecutors introduced an October 13, 2011 Proffer Agreement, where Rosemond met with authorities in hopes of ultimately reaching a Cooperation Agreement with prosecutors. During the session on October 13, Rosemond admitted to a number of illegal activities.

He admitted that 80% to 90% of his income was funded by drug money, and that he laundered the cocaine money through a variety of means.

Rosemond said that he paid for his Brooklyn condominiums renovations with drug money, as a way of laundering the money, in addition to a number of other means.

Rosemond told authorities during the session that he bought a Bentley that was eventually sold to an individual named “Shakim” for “clean money,” without the purchaser’s knowledge.

He also admitted that he gave Wyclef Jean $60,000 in cash from drug proceeds as a loan, with out Wyclef’s knowledge.
The government also said they began investigating Rosemond and Wyclef’s business dealings, after Rosemond received over $800,000 in checks associated companies controlled by Wyclef Jean and his tour manager.

In a blockbuster admission, Rosemond claimed that he had regularly sold Wyclef’s driver “E” a number of kilograms if coke.

In an October 17, 2011 session with the government Rosemond also admitted that the first two shipments of drugs and money were sent to Interscope records, while subsequent shipments of the illegal contraband went to rehearsal spaces in Los Angeles.

The only reason Rosemond did not receive a Cooperation Agreement with the government, was because they caught him in several lives. After meeting with prosecutors a total of nine times, the deal was taken off the table when prison authorities found Rosemond with a live cell phone in his jail cell. An agent testified that Rosemond was exchanging texts with a Mexico area code.

Eventually the government found out that Rosemond was talking to his brother Mario, who was also charged in the case and was a fugitive from justice at the time. Testimony continues off this week.

Seems like Jimmy is trying to get as many people locked up as possible to reduce the numbers he is facing.. SMH

CLEVELAND – A random act of kindness lands a man in trouble with police.

Last Monday, May 14th John Davis was exiting I-90 at the West 117th ramp when he saw a man in a wheelchair. The man was pale, thin and holding a sign that had a religious sentiment and also a request for help.

John thought to himself, “I think we’re all to help the less fortunate.”

The middle class family man from Elyria works hard for a living and enjoys giving back especially to people who are physically challenged.

“I have a brother that’s paralyzed,” said John, “My brother’s in that same situation and struggles.”

John reached into his wallet and grabbed a couple of bucks to give to the man. As he approached the light at the exit, he rolled the money up vertically and stretched his arm out of his window. He says, the man touched the cash and one of the dollars fell to the ground.

The man then bent over and picked it up.

Moments later as John travelled North on West 117th he says a Cleveland police officer pulled him over.

“He proceeds to tell me he’s pulling me over for littering,” said John.

John and his friends who witnessed the exchange were baffled.

The ticket cited Section No: 613.06 of Cleveland’s Municipal Codes, which is littering from a motor vehicle.

His offense was listed as, “Throw paper out window,” and in parenthesis, “money to panhandler.”

John said he was confused because money is paper but it’s not trash.

Cleveland police can’t comment on the ticket at this time but according to a spokesperson there is another code that may have been violated.

There is a code which states that it is illegal to panhandle or give money to panhandlers near a highway or street including a berm, shoulder, treelawn or sidewalk.

Section No: 471.06 states in part that “No person shall stand on a highway for the purpose of soliciting…contributions…”

It also reads that “No driver” is to “transfer currency….to any person standing on a street or highway.”

But John says that’s not what he was ticketed for. He was cited for littering from a motor vehicle, and the officer advised him to “take it up with the courts.”

John does plan to challenge the ticket in court, mainly because it carries a hefty fine. It could cost him $500 once you add the fine plus court costs.

John says he has always had a deep admiration for Cleveland police, and he isn’t trying to start trouble, but that’s a lot of money for helping out someone less fortunate.

“I don’t mean any disrespect toward the police department at all we need ‘em but I just wish I didn’t have to pay this ticket,” said John Davis.

The experience has left him disheartened, and has already destroyed his joy and willingness to give money to those in need.

“I’d like to do it again but I’m petrified I’m going to get a ticket.”

Marco Turrini, 41, had been unemployed for 18 months after the advertising firm where he worked was hit by the economic crisis and cut back his hours.

Neighbours said he had grown increasingly depressed as he struggled to find a new job, and feared losing his wife and his home as the family’s situation worsened, according to police.

The tragedy happened in the northern Italian town of Brescia and is thought to be the latest in a string of suicides by people who have been hit by the downturn in the economy and the ongoing eurozone crisis, which has increased unemployment.

A police spokesman said Mr Turrini died instantly.

The Italian’s 14-month-old girl Benedetta and four-year-old boy Samuele initially survived the fall from the sixth-floor balcony, but later died in hospital from their injuries.

The spokesman added Mr Turrini’s wife had been in the flat at the time and the couple had argued before he grabbed his son and daughter and threw them to their deaths.

She is in hospital being treated for shock.

A neighbour, who was identified only as Elisabetta, told Italian media: “They were a very happy family. I had known them for about four or five years. I saw the children born and watched them grow up.

“This morning I heard some shouting and when I came downstairs to see what had happened I saw him on the floor. He was barely alive.

“He was just about breathing. The little girl’s heartbeat was very weak.”

Later Mr Turrini’s cousin, Maurizio, revealed that the late man’s father had committed suicide a year ago.

He added: “I can’t believe it. I am in shock. I knew he wasn’t working but I didn’t think things were this bad. What did the children have to do with this?”

The ongoing economic crisis has been blamed for a spate of suicides across Italy in recent weeks.

The most dramatic incident was in March when a man set fire himself outside a tax office in Bologna.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Prosecutors said Monday that a man admitted to shooting and killing his wife after an argument about buying a new car.

Police responded to the shooting, located along the 300 block of Albion Way, on Sunday to find Teresa Edwards in her bed with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, 10TV’s Ashleigh Barry reported.

Prosecutors said that Teresa Edwards’ husband, Tom Edwards, later admitted to shooting his wife to death.

Tom Edwards, 60, told police that he and his wife argued about buying a new car the week before she was killed. When he tried to get her out of bed to buy a car on Sunday morning, Tom Edwards said that his wife refused.

According to prosecutors, Tom Edwards said that when his wife refused to get out of bed, he left to smoke a cigarette, returned to the room and shot her four times.

According to a 911 call Tom Edwards placed minutes after the shooting, Edwards said that he wanted to take his own life.

“I don’t want to go to jail for the rest of my life,” Tom Edwards told dispatchers.

Tom Edwards was arrested and charged with aggravated murder. On Monday, he was ordered held under $750,000 bond.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — For months the Orlando Magic have been trudging through the aftermath of a preseason trade request by Dwight Howard that sapped the life out of the franchise as internal team issues quickly affected the product on the floor.

Now after easily one of the most tumultuous seasons in their history, they made the first in what promises to be a huge offseason shake-up

The Magic fired coach Stan Van Gundy on Monday and agreed to part ways with general manager Otis Smith, severing ties with two of the architects of one of the most successful runs in franchise history.

Smith and Van Gundy’s relationship with Howard was the centerpiece of drama the team faced all season and following their second straight first-round playoff exit, CEO Alex Martins said the shift was warranted.

“It’s time for a new leadership and a new approach,” Martins said at a news conference to discuss the moves. “We simply came to the decision that we were not on the right track,”

Martins wouldn’t go into many specifics about what he is looking for in replacements, saying only that he and ownership want to fill the general manager post by June’s NBA draft.

He said he would sit down with ownership on Tuesday to begin ironing out the details of both searches.

Phone and text messages left with Van Gundy and Smith by The Associated Press were not immediately returned.

Orlando went 37-29 in the regular season but was eliminated in five games by Indiana after a rash of late-season injuries that included back surgery for Howard. Orlando went 5-12 without him.

Martins said those consecutive first-round playoff exits were “simply not good enough.”

In early April, Van Gundy claimed top-ranking team officials had told him that Howard had asked management to fire Van Gundy as a condition of the center signing a long-term contract beyond 2013. Howard denied it.

Martins addressed that dispute directly, saying “At no time during that time did Dwight ask me to have Stan fired.”

With a relationship with Smith dating back to the Magic’s inaugural season when Smith was a player and a five-year relationship with Van Gundy, Martins also called Monday “the most difficult day of my career.”

Both Smith and Van Gundy are under contract through next season and both of their contracts will be honored. The current assistant coaching staff has also been offered the opportunity to stay on for now.

Van Gundy coached the Magic for five seasons. He finished with a 259-135 record, going 31-28 in the playoffs.

Smith departs after six years. He was the architect of Magic teams that made it to the playoffs in each of those seasons, winning the Eastern Conference championship in 2009. But he also made several questionable moves, including trades for Vince Carter and Gilbert Arenas that failed to work out long-term.

The day after the Magic’s season ended with the loss to the Pacers, Smith said that he would need a few days to even decide whether he wanted to return to that position following the tough year, setting it as a “50-50″ chance.

Van Gundy said at the time he wanted to return and was hoping that the ultimate decision would be about performance solely.

“When you’re talking a professional relationship, what matters — at least to me — is the results,” Van Gundy said. “I don’t care if it’s a business relationship where two people at work are driving a business to make money, or if it’s a sports relationship, where the object is to win games.”

But both also have acknowledged that this lockout-shortened season was trying for everyone involved.

“This season, and we’ve been digesting it all year, has been the longest, shortest season that we’ve had,” Smith said. “But it’s something that you have to go through. Most sports franchises at some time go through a little bit of uncertainty and this is our time.”

Martins said that ideally the Magic’s next coach will have a championship pedigree, though acknowledged that the search wouldn’t exclude assistants or others who have experience. He said the same was true for the general manager position.

Martins was effusive in his praise as Van Gundy as a “great strategic coach,” but acknowledged that one of the factors they want to see in a new coach is someone who is great at building relationships with players.

“Strategically we may not be able to find anyone better,” he said.

Howard often commented about Van Gundy’s grumpy demeanor on the floor, saying it was at times counterproductive for the team.

This past summer Smith met with Van Gundy and he left that meeting pledging to make improvements. It included him meeting with a Stanford University psychology professor for advice on how to be a better leader.

And it seemed to work, with Van Gundy incurring just one technical during the shortened regular-season, a low during his Magic tenure.

But it wasn’t enough to save his job.

Now the attention shifts to Howard, who remains in Los Angeles recovering from his surgery.

Martins said team officials continue to be in dialogue with the all-star, but hasn’t yet gotten an answer on whether he would like to stay beyond next season when his contract expires.

After a season spent in limbo before Howard finally opted into the final year of his deal, Martins has said the team won’t repeat the same ordeal. That at least leaves open the possibility the Magic could trade him at some point should Howard not agree to sign long-term.

“I think the decision is on Dwight now,” Martins said. “Dwight needs to decide where his future lies.”

CLEVELAND (AP) — A woman allegedly stabbed by her best friend during an argument while sitting behind the wheel of a car tried to drive away and struck her attacker’s 2-year-old daughter, authorities said Friday. The woman and the toddler both died.

The toddler’s mother, Kimberly Black, 29, of Cleveland, was found naked several blocks away and was arrested.

The death of Sharice Swain, 29, of Cleveland, was being investigated as a homicide. Police identified the other victim as 2-year-old Kimshia Ruffin. Her 1-year-old sister, Taraji Ruffin, also was struck, but her injuries were not considering life-threatening.

The violence began Thursday night when Black and Swain were sitting in a running car parked in Black’s driveway and got into an argument, police said. Black left the vehicle, went into her house, returned with a knife and stabbed Swain in the face and neck, police said.

According to Sgt. Sammy Morris, a police spokesman, the injured Swain then stepped on the gas pedal and hit the two young children, who were standing near the car. The car also struck a house, collapsing the roof of the porch.

The nature of the argument involving Black and Swain wasn’t disclosed, and it wasn’t clear if Swain hit the children intentionally or accidentally.

The women had been “best friends since birth” and Swain considered Black a cousin, according to the victim’s mother, Anita Swain.

Anita Swain said her daughter did not have any children and was employed as a factory worker. She said she didn’t know what started the argument and declined to comment further.

Nikki Randall, 30, whose daughter goes to school with Black’s 6-year-old daughter, said neighbors who went to the aid of Sharice Swain after she was stabbed think Black was the intended target of the revving vehicle.

“It was on purpose,” Randall said. “She was actually trying to hit the momma.”

According to Randall, the naked Black was holding her two injured toddlers after they were struck and dropped Kimshia. Randall said she picked up the bloodied Kimshia and cradled her in her arms until firefighters arrived and took over.

“She was bleeding out of everywhere,” Randall said. “As soon as I handed her to the paramedic, she went limp.”

Black apparently had taken off her clothes after the stabbing and fled, authorities said. Upon being taken into custody, she was treated for a hand injury at MetroHealth Medical Center, then was arrested and locked up pending possible charges.

According to court records, Swain pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in 2005 and to permitting drug abuse in 2007. Both times she was placed on probation.

Down the block from the stabbing, Julius Jackson shook his head in disbelief Friday over the attack and subsequent car crash as he watered his newly planted vegetable garden.

“Oh, man, it’s shocking to me,” said Jackson, who said he keeps to himself in a neighborhood where people frequently move in and out.

Black’s arrest occurred a half-block away from the location of the now-demolished house where the remains of 11 murdered women were found in 2009. The killer, Anthony Sowell, is appealing his murder conviction and death sentence.

Young Buck is in SERIOUS trouble — the rapper has been evicted from his Tennessee mansion … AND the I.R.S is still on his ass for more than $300k in unpaid taxes.

TMZ has learned … the former G-Unit rapper was ordered to vacate his 5,000 square foot home by May 16th.

The details surrounding the eviction are unclear — however, court docs show the judge in Buck’s bankruptcy case signed off on the sale of the house … and ordered that the proceeds go towards paying off his massive $333,975.69 debt to Uncle Sam.

Sources tell us … the rapper — who bought the house in 2004 — was spotted earlier this week carrying boxes and removing all of his stuff from the residence.

It’s just the latest in a sad series of problems for the rapper … who filed for bankruptcy back in 2010 … and was SHOT AT 11 TIMES back in March.

We reached out to Buck for comment — so far, no response.
