Rapper 50 Cent is laying claim to former protege Young Buck’s compositions and recordings, threatening plans to sell those assets in the latter’s bankruptcy.

Attorneys representing 50 Cent and his G-Unit Records say a recent motion to sell Young Buck’s intellectual property in a bid to pay his creditors, which we previously covered, doesn’t disclose the specific assets up for grabs.

That’s a problem for 50 Cent, who signed Young Buck to his label in 2004, who says their still-standing recording agreement covers just about all of the IP. As a result, the rapper behind such hits as “In Da Club” and “Candy Shop” is asking a bankruptcy judge to block the sale until they can work out just what Young Buck is—and isn’t—allowed to sell.

“The creditors are left with no choice but to file this opposition to ensure that the trustee is not seeking to adversely affect the creditors’ rights in assets that they own, or in which they have rights and interests,” 50 Cent’s attorneys wrote in court papers filed last week.

Young Buck, whose real name is David Darnell Brown, remains tied to G-Unit Records but hasn’t recorded for the label for a few years because of a feud with Curtis Jackson (50 Cent’s real name). Buck recently told BET he was open to a G-Unit reunion, but a bankruptcy-court dispute with the label could prevent that.

According to 50 Cent, his label owns 100% of all rights of recordings Young Buck did for G-Unit and has the exclusive right “to distribute, reproduce, and authorize adaptations and all performances in whatever form.” Attorneys say that includes Young Buck’s 2010 studio album, “The Rehab,” and any recordings released since, even the songs released independently of G-Unit.

But that’s not all, 50 says. Young Buck also granted G-Unit rights to use of his professional name, trademarks, portraits, logos and likeness, including “a perpetual and exclusive publicity right” to use his past or current recordings o promote records. G-Unit also says it alone can create and host Young Buck’s official website. And an exclusive song-publishing agreement with Universal Music (which filed its own objection) and 50 Cent grants them the exclusive right to administer and publish Young Buck’s songs.

“Thus, all compositions created by the debtor have already been irrevocably conveyed to Jackson (and Universal), and G-Unit retains irrevocable rights of ‘every kind and nature,’ including to rights to royalties, copyrights, to renew/extend copyrights and to causes of action,” attorneys wrote.

But they did throw Young Buck, as well as the bankruptcy trustee overseeing his case, a bone.

“To the extent that the debtor has a share in some of the royalties under the publishing agreement, presumably those assets could be sold,” attorneys said.

Court papers show the matter will be put before a bankruptcy judge next month at a hearing in Nashville, Tenn.

According to the source, who works closely with the Queens veterans, tension has been building between Havoc and Prodigy for some time now. Prodigy was locked up from 2007 through 2011, serving a three-and-a-half-year gun charge sentence, and was determined to stay out of trouble when he came home; he stopped drinking and smoking and hit the gym. “While he was up there, 50 Cent came to visit a couple times,” the source said. “And 50 had came to him and said, ‘Listen, man, when you come home, I wanna sign you as a solo artist.

I’m gonna give you a $500,000 advance check, but I’m not fuckin’ with Havoc because Havoc has been dealin’ with alcohol issues for years. Since you’ve been in jail, he’s checked in to rehab a few times.” Mobb Deep had previously been signed to G-Unit from 2005 through 2009. With three months to go in his sentence, Havoc still hadn’t visited Prodigy, and though the G-Unit offer was enticing, P was willing to give Mobb Deep another chance if Hav visited him before he was released.

“A week before [Prodigy] comes home, Havoc finally shows up,” the source continued. “[He says], ‘Yo, listen, I’m sorry, man. I’ve been battlin’ alcohol again. I just came out of rehab. I really wanna work again. Let’s get money.’” Prodigy was open to getting back to work with his longtime comrade. He was released in March 2011, and the next month dropped his autobiography, My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy. P and Hav hit the studio a few times—even releasing the Black Cocaine EP in November—but the two rarely interacted. “The only time Prodigy would see him was before a show—at the airport or however they’re gonna get there,” the source said.

Citing one instance in particular, the source says Havoc spent $20,000 at a casino, but didn’t remember the next day because he had been drinking heavily. “When he went into the account, the money was gone,” the source recalled. “He forgot because he has these little blackout moments when he’s drunk—that he spent all the money gamblin’. He accused Prodigy’s manager [of] stealin’ the money out of his account. So he knocks on Prodigy’s door, he smacks Prodigy across the face, Prodigy wrestles him down, beats him up a little bit. After, he remembers that he was gamblin’, so he comes back to Prodigy and apologizes and all that. But at this point, Prodigy is already tellin’ me and my other friend, ‘Yo, this is the last Mobb Deep tour. When I get back to New York, I’m gonna disappear. I’m not fuckin’ with H no more.’”

Havoc referenced an altercation on Twitter earlier this week, writing, “I had to smack P, ask him.”

The Infamous Mobb hit SXSW in Austin for the first time last month, and though they performed multiple times, the tension was continuing to mount. “When he got back to New York, Prodigy kept his word,” the source said. “He stopped takin’ Havoc’s calls. He wanted to be out that whole situation.” The source also denied accusations that Havoc questioned Prodigy’s sexuality, and said it’s highly unlikely that the two will work together again. “To be honest with you, there’s 120 percent certainty that there will never be another Mobb Deep album again,” the source concluded. “How do you come back from that?”

50 Cent has claimed that he doesn’t think he’ll live much longer.

The rapper made the remark while telling fans that he is disappointed with his record label team at Interscope, who continue to refuse the release of his fifth studio album.

50 Cent tweeted: “I have lost all the faith in the team I’m on. I having nothing left to say I will not be promoting my music.

“I’m going to deliver this album then. I have a film I wrote to focus on I’m not upset I’m just convinced this is not how I want to remembered.”

He continued: “I’ll be honest I don’t think I’m gonna live much longer. That’s why I started my street king movement. I want to mean more in other peoples lives.

“I mixed the Big 10 because everything I do has to be the best I can make it cause other artist will create after hearing the ideas.”

He added: “This morning I was look out the window. I saw a bird fly right on to ledge. It felt like he was looking right at me. I hit the window and he just looked at me like he new I couldn’t do anything threw the glass.

“I was tripping he sat there a minute then flew off. I’d like to [be] a bird. So I could fly and s**t on the world. Then you all could say 50 s**t on me. That’s luck right ? Then don’t wipe the s**t off.”

After receiving a string of concerned responses from fans, the hip-hop star insisted: “To be conscious that life is short is not suicidal. I’m good if I die tonight I’ve taken care of the people who took care of me when I couldn’t take care myself.”

50 Cent recently unveiled his new track ‘I Just Wanna’ online, after his label revealed that his new single would be ‘Girls Go Wild’ without his say.
