CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – Police say an Ohio man who stuck his 3-year-old son in a clothes dryer as punishment and then turned it on is facing child endangerment charges.

The Zanesville Times Recorder reports that 40-year-old Jamial Bayly is scheduled for a video arraignment Thursday in Cambridge Municipal Court.

Guernsey County Sheriff Michael McCauley says deputies went to the Cambridge home Sunday after getting a tip from family members.

The sheriff says the father acknowledged putting the boy in the dryer earlier in the day. Deputies didn’t see any visible injuries on him. McCauley says he doesn’t know how long the boy had been in the dryer.

The sheriff says the boy was released to his mother, who wasn’t home when deputies arrived.

Cambridge Municipal Court records don’t list an attorney for Bayly.

(CNN) – A Northern California woman was arrested on suspicion of taking a bite out of two kids in the children’s section of a bookstore, police said.

Polly Beltramo, 46, of Palo Alto, is accused of biting a 2-year-old girl and a baby boy on the cheek at BookBuyers in Mountain View on Thursday, police said.

The incident began when Beltramo allegedly bit the girl, whose mother was in the children’s section of the store, witnesses said.

Bookstore owner Rammurti Reed said he heard the girl screaming and saw a red welt on her cheek.

“Suddenly a little boy, who was just a couple of months old, started screaming,” Reed told CNN affiliate KGO-TV. “I went to him and his cheek was bleeding.”

Beltramo allegedly fled the store and was later found at a nearby coffee shop, police said.

Beltramo has been arrested on felony child abuse, police said.

SOMERVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork)- An assistant middle school principal and Catholic high school volunteer was arraigned Wednesday for secretly videotaping teenage boys as they showered at a central New Jersey high school, according to the Somerset County prosecutor’s office.

Patrick J. Lott, 54, of Somerville, faces numerous charges, including child endangerment and invasion of privacy.

On Dec 13 and 16, members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit obtained warrants and searched Lott’s home where they seized and reviewed multiple computer files and digital recordings.

During the review of the seized files, detectives found several videos of nude teenagers showering in the Immaculata High School boys’ communal shower area, according authorities.

Nine of the teenagers identified in the videos are currently under the age of sixteen. Detectives also found the area where a camera had been secretly installed for video recording. The videos were recorded for nearly three years, starting in January 2008, authorities said.

Lott was arrested on December 23 and remains in the Somerset County Jail. Bail was set at $500,000.00 cash or bond.

As a condition of Lott’s bail, he is to have no contact with any child under the age of sixteen. Additionally, he is to have no contact with any victim or any Immaculata High School staff or faculty member.

According to the Lott is an assistant middle school principal who also volunteered at Immaculata in Somerville. He also was active in local and county politics, serving for a time as chairman of the Somerville Republican Committee.

Chicago police are investigating the posting to Facebook of a photo that appears to show a young girl with her hands and legs bound and her mouth covered with tape.

The picture, seen above, was recently posted to the Facebook page of Andre Curry, a 21-year-old Chicago man. The photo carried the notation, “This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back. ; ).”

Hours after the photo was originally posted, a Facebook friend of Curry’s wrote, “U goin to jail.” Je’Vanna Cobbins, a second Facebook friend, wrote, “really??? Dre.”

Cobbins, a Chicago resident, told TSG she believes Curry was just “playing around,” adding that, “I wouldn’t say it was child abuse.” Cobbins said that Curry–who once dated her sister–would “never do anything to harm anyone.” While noting that the image went “a bit too far,” Cobbins added that Curry was “being playful with his child. People play with their child differently.”

The disturbing image–which began to circulate online over the past several days–apparently prompted calls to cops. A Chicago Police Department spokesman today told TSG that “detectives are looking into it.”

Curry did not respond to a message sent via his Facebook page (where photos are only available to his friends).

In a phone interview, Curry’s grandmother said that he is father to a young daughter, but added that she knew nothing about the Facebook photo.

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -A Carlisle attorney who has joined the defense team of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky says his recent comments on the case have been taken out of context.

During an interview with abc27 News this week, attorney Karl Rominger spoke of Sandusky’s admission that he showered with boys. Rominger said that some troubled children, like those helped by The Second Mile charity, don’t have basic hygiene skills.

“Teaching a person to shower at the age of 12 or 14 sounds strange to some people, but people who work with troubled youth will tell you there are a lot of juvenile delinquents and people who are dependent who have to be taught basic life skills like how to put soap on their body,” Rominger said during the interview.

In a statement issued Thursday by Rominger and Associates, Rominger said the media accounts of his answer have become “somewhat exaggerated.”

“When answering why a person might be in a shower with a youth, I proposed one hypothetical, such as an adult leading by example and encouraging a youth with bad or poor hygiene to shower regularly,” he said in the statement.

“Some commentators have argued that I am saying that Mr. Sandusky showered with youths and touched them inappropriately for the purpose of teaching them how to shower,” Rominger said. “That is not what I said.”

“First, there’s no evidence of inappropriate touching in a shower, except for discredited statements from the grand jury presentment,” he said. “Further, Jerry has maintained his innocence and denies any sexual touching or inappropriate touching in the shower.”

“Therefore, I would like to clarify that I am not suggesting that this is what happened in this case, but was answering questions about possible motivations an individual might have for an adult to shower with a juvenile,” he said.

MEMPHIS, TN – (WMC-TV) – A Memphis mom was charged with child abuse after a witness told officers she kicked her son in the face repeatedly because he was drinking a Gatorade.

Nicole Wright was at her son’s practice at Memphis Athletic Ministries Monday and spotted the boy with a Gatorade, according to court records. The boy reportedly told his mother that a coach gave him the sports drink. However, when she asked the coach, he denied giving the boy the Gatorade.

That’s when the coach says she punched the boy in the face, threw him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him in the head and neck.

The child sustained bruises and was taken to Le Bonheur for treatment.

When questioned about the abuse, Wright admitted she had attacked her son, court papers say.

Wright has been charged with child abuse and is being held on $1,000 bond.

Muncie, Ind. A Muncie woman was arrested Wednesday after police said she sexually assaulted a 6-month-old girl, which left the baby with a sexually transmitted disease.

Police said Ashley Stapert, 21, admitted she and her former boyfriend assaulted her friend’s daughter. According to the probable cause affidavit, Stapert told police she fondled and performed a sexual act on the baby.

“Any time children in our community are hurt or injured, especially a small baby, we feel like we have to be the voice for that victim, have to speak up because they can’t speak,” said Judi Calhoun, Delaware County Chief Deputy Prosecutor.

The probable cause stated the baby’s mother allowed Stapert and Stapert’s boyfriend at the time to stay with her because she believed they were homeless. The mother said she knew the couple and allowed them to babysit her baby.

The baby’s mother told police she learned of the alleged molestation after Stapert and her boyfriend told others about the incident.

“When you do things that inflict pain on others, that child may be scarred for life, and there’s no call for that under any circumstances,” said Michael Boyd, the victim’s neighbor.

Boyd said he is sickened by the crime.

The baby was brought to Riley Hospital for Children to be evaluated. A medical exam revealed the baby had contracted genital warts.

Stapert is preliminarily charged with child molest, a Class A felony and criminal deviate conduct, a Class C felony. She is being held in the Delaware County jail without bond.

The other suspect in the case is being sought by authorities.

A female New York City school teacher has been charged with raping a statutory rape of a male student and plying him with drugs and alcohol, police said Wednesday.

Sixth-grade humanities teacher Claudia Tillery, 42, was collared by cops at her home on Rogers Ave., in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

She was charged with rape, unlawful dealing of drugs and alcohol to a child, sexual misconduct, sexual abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Prosecutors said she had sex with the boy in her home and at a Brooklyn motel.

At her arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court early Thursday morning, Judge John Hecht released her on her own recognizance, rejecting a request from prosecutors to hold her on $100,000 bail.

The victim is a sixth-grader at Middle School 35, the Stephen Decatur School, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, where Tillery began teaching in 1996, officials said. The boy, now 14, had been having a sexual relationship with Tillery for two years but ended it and came forward Nov.22.

NYPD investigators were at MS 35 Wednesday where the hallways were buzzing with news of the affair.

“It makes me very disappointed,” said Luciano Timo, 11, who said Tillery was his sixth-grade homeroom teacher. “She’s straight with us in class. She doesn’t have extra relationships with us. The only thing she gives us is detention.”

Tillery, who has three children, has been removed from the classroom pending the outcome of the case. Her lawyer, Andrew Stoll, called the charges bogus, saying the teacher mentored the victim, who turned on her when she had him arrested for stealing her cell phone.

Department of Education spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said she has been removed from the classroom pending the outcome of the criminal case.

An award winning-composer, who wrote music for the PBS’ long-running children’s series, “Sesame Street,” was arraigned on charges of coercing a child “to engage in sexually explicit conduct” in South Carolina on Nov. 21, the New York Daily News reports.

Fernando Rivas was arrested on April 19 after police discovered photographs of a 4-year-old girl naked and “restrained in handcuffs and other bondage-type devices.”

Rivas admitted to handcuffing the child, taking the photos and emailing them to two other individuals.

The Juliard-trained composer pleaded not guilty to the charges, which also included production and distribution of child pornography and is currently under house arrest.

Rivas won a Grammy award for Best Children’s Album in 1998 for his work on “Elmopalooza,” and also wrote the music for Disney’s “Handy Manny.”

The Cuban-born musician taught music to high school students in Charleson, SC in the early ‘00s. “We are unaware of any connection between the charges against him and Porter-Guad, but we are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation,” the school said in a statement.

An Akron father is accused of beating his 5-year-old daughter for failing to recognize parts of the alphabet, police said.

Christopher D. Curry, 39, is charged with felonious assault, child endangering and domestic violence. His daughter, a kindergartner, was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital on Tuesday with multiple bruises and cuts, including a nearly swollen shut left eye. Her condition Thursday was not available.

A family friend who came home to find the girl beaten and bruised said the child has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries. She is a student at Edge Academy.

Veronica Bell called Akron police when she saw the girl’s injuries. Curry and his daughter live at Bell’s home.

“When I came home it was nothing that nobody wanted to see, especially when it comes to a 5-year-old,” Bell said. “I don’t feel it’s right. She’s only 5. Her face was all messed up. I went crazy and called police.”

According to Akron police, the 5-foot-10, 297-pound Curry became angry when his daughter struggled to recognize the letter D while doing schoolwork inside their Douglas Street home Tuesday night.

Police said he lifted the girl by her neck and struck her in the head multiple times. He also whipped the girl with a belt, witnesses told police.

Officers called to the home about 10:30 p.m. found the girl screaming and crying. She had knots on her head and a cut lip, according to the report.

Bell said Curry had spanked the child before, “But I never thought he’d take it this far.”

After the attack, she said, Curry sat silent.

“He just sat there like nothing was wrong,” she said.

Curry was booked into the Summit County Jail on Wednesday and was being held on a $100,000 bond set in Akron Municipal Court. Summit County Children Services was contacted.
