Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) criticizes House Republicans for offering an amendment “under cover of darkness” that would allow confederate flag paraphernalia to be sold and displayed at federal cemeteries and national parks. The House later cancelled a vote on the amendment. The amendment would have negated amendments approved Tuesday that would ban sales of the flag in National Park Service Stores and from allowing displays on graves at Park Service-run cemeteries. He calls the flag “nothing more than a symbol of racial hatred and oppression.”
