The Federal Emergency Management Agency is burning through its funds like a craps table in Vegas, and according to a Senate aide, it’s expected to run out of money by Friday. Business Insider reports that of the just over $1 billion in FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund, only $541 million was “immediately available” for assisting those affected by Hurricane Harvey. President Donald Trump asked Congress for a down payment of nearly $8 billion last week for Harvey relief and recovery efforts. In the meantime, the entire state of Florida is on alert for Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 hurricane barreling through the Caribbean and possibly headed towards the Florida Keys and Miami.
