San Francisco’s public school leaders are currently considering giving out condoms to middle school students. The San Francisco Examiner reported on Monday that the policy change was introduced as part of an effort by the city’s Unified School District to further prevent sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy among minors. A board committee is scheduled to discuss the proposal later this week. The board first adopted a policy to distribute condoms at high schools in 1991, and five years later the board amended the district’s condom distribution program to allow parents to opt out or exclude their child from the program.
